Abstract
Among the millions of students in schools there are always those who are performing at a lower level. Most of the times this is not due to a limit on their capabilities, it may be due to lack of proper study skills. Study skills are often underestimated and underappreciated aspect of education. These skills are generally critical to success in school, are considered essential or acquiring good graded and are useful for learning throughout one’s life. If students have not developed proper study skills in their lower classes, the academic works become more difficult to them as they go to higher classes. So it is necessary to provide guidance to students to develop the study skills in them at a younger age itself in order to make the learning process relevant and rewarding to them. The present study was conducted with an aim to test the effect of study skills guidance programme on the Academic Anxiety of secondary school students. The study was experimental in nature and was conducted on students of standard IX of Ernakulam district of Kerala. The tools used were study skills questionnaire, Academic anxiety Scale and Students’ Reactions Scale. The findings of the study throw light on the manners in which teachers and educational administrators can restructure the current instructional practices by integrating study skills guidance in the curriculum so that these skills can be essentially developed in the students that will transform them to effective and confident learners.
